Static electricity (ESD) generates high-voltage, short-duration pulses. These pulses can damage sensitive electronic components within the terminal. The terminal's internal circuitry, particularly the microcontroller, memory, and communication interfaces (NFC/EMV reader), are vulnerable. The level of damage depends on the magnitude and duration of the ESD event and the effectiveness of the terminal's internal ESD protection mechanisms. Voltage spikes may exceed component ratings leading to dielectric breakdown and permanent damage. Baud rate errors may arise from corrupted firmware or damaged communication ICs.
High voltage is present in the power adapter and internal circuitry. Do not attempt to open or disassemble the terminal. Opening the terminal will void any warranty and may trigger internal anti-tamper mechanisms, rendering the device permanently unusable. Risk of electrical shock. Ensure the terminal is unplugged before performing any external maintenance. In a retail environment, lockout/tagout (LOTO) is not required; Safe Handling (unplugging) is sufficient.
