Loop detectors operate on the principle of inductive reactance. A signal is transmitted through the loop wire, creating an electromagnetic field. Changes in inductance, caused by metallic objects entering the loop, are detected. Signal attenuation, cable impedance mismatch, or a break in the loop wire can prevent detection. External electromagnetic interference (EMI) can also disrupt the signal.
