Touchscreen functionality relies on a capacitive grid or resistive layer detecting touch input. Failure in a specific area indicates localized hardware damage or a driver issue affecting that portion of the screen. Signal attenuation, potentially due to cable strain or electromagnetic interference (EMI), can also affect touchscreen sensitivity. ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) events can damage sensitive touchscreen components.

Always unplug the KDS unit from the power source before performing any maintenance or troubleshooting. Avoid using excessive force when cleaning the touchscreen. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they can damage the screen. Be aware of ESD hazards, especially in dry environments. Ground yourself before touching the KDS unit.
Regularly clean the touchscreen surface with a soft, lint-free cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Ensure the touchscreen data cable is properly secured and free from strain. Implement measures to reduce static electricity in the environment, especially during dry winter months (e.g., use of humidifiers, anti-static mats).
Try gently applying pressure to the unresponsive area of the touchscreen while power-cycling the device. This can sometimes temporarily restore functionality if there is a loose connection within the touchscreen panel itself. If the touchscreen uses a USB connection for input, check the USB port configuration within the OS (operating system).
