Touch a grounded metal object (e.g., a metal pipe or appliance chassis) before handling the Toast KDS or its cables. You can also use an anti-static wrist strap connected to a grounded point.
Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cables are recommended for reliable network connectivity. Ensure the cable is properly shielded (STP) if the environment is subject to high electromagnetic interference.
Ethernet communication relies on a stable physical connection for data transmission. Damaged ports can cause signal attenuation, impedance mismatches, and packet loss, leading to delays. The Ethernet port transmits data via differential signalling, and physical damage can disrupt these signals. ESD events can also damage the PHY chip within the KDS. Voltage fluctuations or drops may also cause the ethernet connection to drop.
Safe Handling: Always disconnect the power and Ethernet cable before inspecting or handling the device. Static electricity can damage electronic components. Avoid working in carpeted areas during dry conditions. Do not attempt to open the KDS unit as it contains tamper-evident security measures and could cause permanent damage. Do NOT use liquids to clean the port; compressed air only.
