EMV/NFC payment terminals employ internal tamper detection mechanisms as mandated by PCI-PTS standards. These sensors monitor for physical intrusion, voltage irregularities, or unexpected signal disruptions that could compromise cryptographic keys or sensitive data. A tamper event triggers a permanent memory wipe to protect cardholder information. Transient voltage spikes (ESD), cable damage, or software corruption can erroneously trigger tamper alerts. Baud rate issues are not typically associated with tamper errors, however, signal attenuation could be caused by cable damage.
