Data corruption in NFC/EMV systems can originate from several points. The reader uses radio frequency (RF) signals to communicate with payment cards. Signal attenuation, electromagnetic interference (EMI), or electrostatic discharge (ESD) events can corrupt this communication. Data integrity checks, such as checksums and parity bits, are implemented to detect errors. A failure during these checks will result in the "Invalid Data" error. Baud rate mismatches or voltage fluctuations in the reader's internal communication bus can also lead to data corruption.
Ensure the Presto reader is disconnected from the power supply before cleaning or inspecting any external connections. Avoid using liquids or abrasive cleaners. The Presto reader is designed for unattended operation; do not attempt to open the casing or modify the internal components. Doing so will trigger tamper detection mechanisms and void any warranty. Environmental conditions such as extreme cold can affect the reader's performance; ensure the reader is rated for the operating temperature.
Regularly clean the Presto reader with a dry, antistatic cloth. Ensure adequate ventilation around the reader to prevent overheating. Protect the reader from extreme temperatures and humidity. Implement cable strain relief measures to prevent damage to the NFC antenna cable. Schedule routine power cycling (weekly) to refresh the system.
Attempt to process a known-good test card. If the test card also fails, the issue is likely with the reader itself. If the test card works, the issue may be with specific cards being used. Note: If the unit is exposed to extremely low temperatures, allow it to acclimate to room temperature before attempting to use it.
