NAND flash memory used for data storage has a limited write endurance. Wear levelling algorithms attempt to distribute writes evenly, but memory blocks can still degrade over time. Software bugs or corrupted data tables can also cause excessive memory usage. EMV card transactions log files also accumulate and use memory until they are cleared.
Poynt Terminal displays a "Low Memory" error message. The terminal may be attempting to clear data.
Safe Handling: Always disconnect the terminal from its power source before performing any physical inspection or cleaning. Do not use excessive force on connectors. Static electricity can damage electronic components; ground yourself before touching any exposed connections, especially during dry winter months. Clean the touchscreen with a soft, lint-free cloth and approved cleaning solution. PCI-PTS compliance means that any attempt to open the terminal's casing will trigger irreversible tamper-detection mechanisms. No LOTO is needed.
