Ethernet timeout errors indicate a failure to establish or maintain a consistent data transmission within a defined period. This can be caused by voltage fluctuations affecting the network adapter, signal attenuation due to cable degradation, incorrect baud rate negotiation between the terminal and the network switch, or electrostatic discharge (ESD) interfering with the communication pathway. Software bugs within the firmware can also trigger false timeout errors.
Do not attempt to open or disassemble the Ingenico Desk/3500. This device contains tamper-evident security measures that will permanently disable the device if breached. Use Safe Handling procedures: Unplug the device from the power source before inspecting or cleaning any cables or connections. Avoid contact with internal components. Ensure the power adapter is not damaged. Avoid working on the device during lightning storms to prevent electrical shock.
Maintain a clean and dry environment for the terminal. Regularly inspect and clean the Ethernet cable and port. Provide adequate strain relief for the Ethernet cable to prevent damage. Implement an ESD control program during dry seasons, which includes grounding mats and anti-static wrist straps where appropriate.
Timeout errors can sometimes be triggered by excessive network traffic. Check network bandwidth usage during peak transaction times. If network utilization is consistently high, consider implementing Quality of Service (QoS) on the network switch to prioritize transaction data packets. Consult with your network administrator.
