Laser scanners project a focused beam of light. The Gryphon uses a laser diode, a collimating lens, and a mirror or prism to direct the beam. An optical sensor detects the reflected light. A malfunction at a specific angle suggests a misalignment or intermittent electrical connection within the optical path or power supply to the laser diode. Thermal expansion can cause signal attenuation at the connection point due to variations in resistance across the circuit. ESD events can also damage the diode.
Safe Handling: Disconnect the scanner from the base station before performing any cleaning or inspection. Avoid direct eye exposure to the laser beam. Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the scanner internally due to potential electrical shock and anti-tamper mechanisms. The device is NOT LOTO compliant.
